 Having an

on the community around us!

!IMPACT! is reaching out to the community around Good Shepherd and providing needed programs and services.

!IMPACT! is a program, sponsored by members and friends of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and local businesses, whereby the church offers its resources to the neighborhood when the facilities are not in ordinary use.

!IMPACT! programs are organized activities that benefit community segments which are most in need, as determined from periodic and regular person-to-person surveys.

!IMPACT! purpose: To create a safe and wholesome place where positive values are practiced and reinforced during activities which satisfy identified needs at no better place, than close to home.

Who pays for the !IMPACT! Program? IMPACT! is one of Good Shepherd's outreach programs and is self-sustaining. In the past, financial backing has been provided by local businesses, and a generous gift from an anonymous donor enabled the initiation of the program. A steering committee consisting of church members and neighborhood advisors, not necessarily members of Good Shepherd, oversee the program and advise the director. Funding to continue this outreach is sufficient for another year, but monies are needed to sustain the program. To this end, two members of the steering committee attended grant-writing seminar sponsored by the Lutheran Church. Tips on how to apply for funding were reviewed, as well as how to research funding sources. !IMPACT! can desperately use more volunteers with grant-writing expertise to help us apply for funding and to enable us to continue our neighborhood outreach this fall when we hope to expand our after-school tutoring program to three days per week. !IMPACT! has made a difference for the children of our church community during the summer and will continue to do so as the school semester begins. More volunteers are always welcome, as well as your prayers for direction and strength from our Heavenly Father over this important ministry.

    PAPERLESS SCRIP PROGRAM

Paperless grocery scrip. The !IMPACT! program currently offers and benefits from two grocery scrip cards - Albertson’s and Raley’s / Bel Air. The people using these cards are helping raise about $2,000 per year to support the !IMPACT! budget of about $23,000. We can use more participating shoppers; it is so easy for you to support the !IMPACT! program in this way. The checkers scan the bar code on your card at the cash register and each quarter the stores mail us a check for a percentage of your purchases. If you shop at Albertson’s or Raley’s / Bel Air and wish to participate, please call Richard Morat (487-9030) and you will be provided with a scrip card. It costs you nothing and does not affect your grocery bill.

Attention grocery scrip card users: The Albertson’s cards come activated. You can have the grocery clerk electronically link your scrip card to your Albertson’s member card so you only need to show your blue member card at each transaction. Near the bottom of your receipt you will see the note "Thank you for supporting youth through our Community Members Program" if you are properly linked. The Raley’s / Bel Air cards come pre-designated for Good Shepherd but you must register your name, address, and phone number to activate the card. If activated properly, your receipt will show "Thank you for using your Quality of Life Card." If you do not see these verifications on your receipts, !IMPACT! does not benefit from your purchases. Check with the grocery clerk, and if they can’t help, call Richard Morat

(487-9030). Thanks for making a big difference in the community.
