   Small Group Opportunities

"True, deep, long lasting changes occur through experiences with God and others that transform us from the inside out. Experiences can not be short changed. Each requires time. God created principles of growth and change that bless us when we experience them, not when we understand them. It is very different from learning or memorizing."

Dr. Henry Cloud
Making Small Groups Work

Have you ever wondered why change is not occurring in an area of your life that you have been praying about. Perhaps the answer lies in the above statement. If we are not seeking opportunities to change, we won’t. It is really that simple. If we want a deeper relationship with Our Lord and Savior, if we want to learn to have better relationships with others, if we want to overcome negative thinking, we must be willing to "experience" an avenue that will affect change. That is what takes place in a small group. Over time, individuals seek God as a group sharing one another’s burdens and joy on their journey of faith. Ultimately, the group becomes a safe place where change can occur. Please pray about the opportunities at Good Shepherd and seek God’s guidance about how He might desire growth in your Christian walk this year.

In these three areas we currently offer:

Moms In Prayer
Single Women’s Fellowship
Faith Circle
Rebecca Circle
Women’s Night Out
Breakfast Bible Study
Thursday Morning Bible Study
First Saturday Men’s Group
A Life Worth Living
Crossways

These groups are utilized by roughly 5% of our congregation. Perhaps the biggest single barrier to connectedness is simply the pace of our lives. We cannot "do community" in a hurry. We can’t listen in a hurry. We can’t rejoice, mourn, or make friends in a hurry.

We encourage you to pray about slowing down a bit, to carve out some time for a small group this fall. If your spiritual tank has been running low, it probably needs refueling between Sundays. Look over the opportunities that we provide. If you see an area of interest, please ask us how you may become involved. If you are involved, please invite others whom you feel may benefit as you do. If you do not see what you need, talk with us. There may be others looking to start a similar group. Interested? Please contact Ministry Associate Shirley Schaber (483-0451).
